The symposium will be held at
Tampere University of Technology (TUT) in the city of Tampere located
in the inland of Finland ca. 200 km north from Helsinki. The conference hotels are all located
in the Tampere city centre while the conference venue, Tampere
University of Technology campus, is located at Hervanta suburb
approximately 10 km south-east from the city centre.
How
to get to Tampere University of Technology
Please see the
TUT
page for general information. Bus transportations will be
arranged from the conference hotels before and after the
conference. Public buses number 13 and 20 run between the city
centre (Keskustori) and TUT every 30 or 40 minutes. The
bus stop is TTY. Public buses 23 and 30 run between the city
centre and Hervanta centre every ten or fifteen minutes. The bus
stops nearest to TTY are Tieteenkatu 8 for bus nr. 23 and
Hervantakeskus for bus nr. 30. Further information on the bus

Symposium Banquet
The Symposium Banquet will take place in
Viikinsaari, which is a small island of Pyhäjärvi lake in
Tampere. During the boat trip from Laukontori square to
Viikinsaari you can enjoy views of Tampere onboard M/S
Tammerkoski. You can find information on Viikinsaari also at
Tampere city pages.
Weather
Summer weather with temperature ranging from 16 to 21 centigrade
may be expected in June. Evening temperature is about 5-10 centigrade lower. On occasion,
Finnish summer may also show its wet and cold side, so an umbrella and a sweater/windbreaker may be useful.

Technical visit
On Wednesday, 15 June, a technical visit will be arranged to
Areva T&D Finland, Nokian Capacitors factory. AREVA T&D Finland
engineers and manufactures products and systems for reactive
power compensation and harmonic filtering. The products range
from low and high voltage capacitors and electronic equipment to
air-core reactors and compensation systems. The turnover in 2008
was 70 million euros and the company employs more than 290
people. Exports account for 95% of Areva T&D Finlands output.
AREVA T&D Finland started up in 1957 in Helsinki under the name
of "Finnish Cable Works Co. Ltd.". The company's capacitor
division moved to Tampere at the end of the 1960s and occupied
new premises in the 1980s.
